Nick found his way to architecture via a winding path: studying physics as an undergraduate at Creighton University, working in commercial construction, spending a year as an AmeriCorps volunteer in a nonprofit afterschool program, and working on hazardous waste issues at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

After earning a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan, Nick joined a nonprofit design collaborative in Omaha, Nebraska, where he designed and built a seasonal streetscape project, helped conceptualize and throw a 500-person food and design event on a bridge over the interstate, and participated in NEA-funded research looking at the land use history of the suburban-rural edge of Omaha. He also worked as a freelance designer, providing graphic design services and producing creative reuse products.

These experiences each represent Nick’s varied interests—technical, social, creative, and environmental—which he believes are equally important considerations in the design and construction of our built environment.
